ZAGREB – Capital of Croatia

5/11

Had lunch in Warsaw before going to the airport, and we made ourselves a little sandwich for the road. Got to the airport, excellent plane ride, and landed in Zagreb 1 1/2 hours later. Picked up a car (Renault Clio) with stick shift and navigation. After getting all the instructions of navigation, there we went to conquer the city.

The British lady inside my navigation, was not completely awake, because he gave me the orders just a little too late, so every time we needed to make a turn, we passed it and she , very politely, said: rerouting……..after many rerouting, and turnabouts (that we never saw) we arrived to the hotel.

The hotel shares the parking lot with the city hospital………..maybe the company that set up the trip for us, realized that by this time we will be so old that would be smart to let us stay near the hospital????

Up into the room, very nice, big and clean, we ate our sandwich (the one that we prepared this morning at breakfast) unwind, and got ready for the afternoon.

Temperature very nice in the 70’s, amazing because we were having very cold weather until today. So short sleeves, a light jacket, and NO, we did not drive to the city, our dear friend UBER was so happy to see us again!.

We went to the old city, where the Cathedral, the Plaza and all the cute stores reside. Enter to many churches, non of them were lit, took some pictures and kept walking.

It was time for a beer for me and a drink for Jackie. We sat down in a cute place (chairs and benches on the street) asked for the menu, and I saw Leffe beer, oh yes!!!!! Great beer. Asked the waiter for one, but he did not have it. He offered a mixed of amber and some darker beer, it sounded OK, then I asked….can we pay with credit card? NOPE

So we walked a couple of blocks, changed some $$$ for Kunas. (1 dólar = 8.1 Kunas) with the Kunas in our pocket , we went back to the beer place, sat down on comfortable cushion sofas, ordered our drink and enjoy watching people pass by.

Women well kept, well dressed, high hells, nice looking, we knew they were the residents of the area, accompanied by well dressed men. Then we saw teenagers dressed light teenagers everywhere, jeans, cute tops, laughing and all talking at the same time. Now, men, that is a different story.

We could not pick up but only one good looking men, groomed and nice. All the others, with the exception of the ones named before, beer belly, bold…..we are not picky but…

Finished my beer (2 glasses) because the waiter brought me a bottle , maybe a 500 ml?

Jackie finished her drink (I leave that up to her to share. LOL) and we decided to go walking looking for something to nibble on.

Oh Surprise, I find Argentina Caffe, in the Main Street of Zagreb. I was so happy!!! Nothing better than a Panqueque con Dulce de Leche!!!!! Oh no!!!! They only served drinks????? What’s up with that???

Kept walking, many orientals everywhere, with sticks for their phones, for the selfies, you know,,,, it looked like Disneyland! (No sticks allowed there, I know!)

We encounter a street market, where you could see prosciutto, bacon, sausages, cheeses, honey, oils, embroidery little things, we bought a cup of little donut holes? With sugar and cinnamon, They were good! Kept on walking, nothing espectacular, decided it was time to go home, found a taxi stop and back to the hotel, I was paying attention of the driving, the roads…..so many turns!!!!!! It will be an experience that I will leave for tomorrow.

Finishing this lines and going to bed. 9 PM.
