5/15 RAKOVICA – 170 KM FROM ZAGREB Woke up this morning, still gloomy, but after a great breakfast, (cereal, 1/2 a banana and milk) we took off to find Barac’s Cave. OH!! Chiquita!!!!!!Left home at 10 am, drove here, there, here again……did not find what we were looking for. Chiquita was on strike, my google was working with her, so….came back the way we went, stopped at the restaurant where we had dinner, and got great help!! A young guy got his phone, did google earth for us and voila!!!! Directions at my fingertips. I took pictures to every page he was showing me, and he told me when you see “house Giga” that is the street you need to take to go to the caves. So funny, because “house GIGA” was our bed and breakfast (no breakfast as you know). Took a beautiful road, wide enough for 2 little cars, but nobody was coming my way or going my way!!!!! So it was a very easy drive. Great road signs showing us where this cave was. (Add picture of the road) Finally we make it there. Parked the car, and took by foot a road downhill that led us to the entrance of the park where the cave was. Paid an entrance fee of 50 kunas each (about U$S 8.-) waited 30 minutes for the guide. About 16 people, not all Americans but all English spoken. We went up a hill, some with steps, some terrain. Our professional guide took us on a path among breath-taking stalactites and explain how the cave was created over the course of thousand of years. They were opened to the public in 1892. The cave is lit in some places so we could walk. At the end of the tour, the guide told us he would turn off the lights. How amazing was that darkness!!!!!! I never lived that experience. We left the caves in awe. Back to the car, had a sandwich that we had prepared in the morning, and decided to visit a Dreznik Grad, a village nearby where you could see a Medieval fort above the village….Well….You imagine what happened….no signs this time on the road, so me turned here, turned there, the road was getting thinner and thinner……about time to make a return. Kept on riding, and OH! Surprise…we see a sign that reads: Denzil Grad…….tiny village, did not see any Medieval fort. LOL. And kept driving. Found the main road and stopped at a little cafe to have some coffee. Coffee was good, but the smell of cigarettes. OH MY! Everybody smokes here!!! Finished the coffee. And we saw, in the same block a Bakery!!!! Wow…. got there , found some tart made with meat, onion and mushrooms?? Not sure, bought a slice (wide enough for both) and back to the Batmobile, and drove towards the Plitvice Lakes. Raining, clouds really low, so we decided to come back, but we saw a market signed, so we follow that road, right, left, right, slight right, slight left….Market!!!! We got what we were looking for…Pina Colada….and came back to the bed not breakfast abode. Took a bath with luke warm water, not by choice, and got ready for dinner. The tart was good, and the Lowenbrau beer was great! Watch a silly movie in Netflix, and here I am now writing this notes. Tomorrow plan to go to Pletvice Lakes for real!! Good night!! The
