Krakow. Wieliczka Salt Mines

5/7. Breakfast: Left over Cheese and crackers!

We were to be picked up 6 blocks away from the hotel, always following directions: right, left, right……and because we are so obedient, we followed…you know the answer: wrong directions, but we got to our destination. A minivan showed up at 9:10 AM, 2 Dutch guys, a German girl from Vienna and us going to the Salt Mines.

30 minutes travel, with a lot of harsh stops! The driver!!! Oh, the driver!!!! But we got there. Earphones and a little watchamacallit……call it transmitter, that did not work that well, much static…and the guide had a very slow, boring voice, so we ignore all that (you can always google everything you want to revisit the place by memory)

A little about it: reaches a depth of 327 meters and extends via horizontal passages and chamber for over 287 Km (178 miles). The rock salt is naturally of varying shades of Grey, resembling unpolished granite rather than the white crystalline substance that might be expected.

The journey begins with a walk down of 380 steps. That is level 1 at 64 meters down. Beautiful incredible sculptures made of salt.

Down we were for the next 3 levels, we reached a depth of 135meters underground, 800 steps! It was worth it! There is a chapel in the very low level, where there is Mass on Sundays and you can get married there, if you have enough $$$

Here some pictures, unable to described.

4 Hours later, we went back to town. Walk through the Jewish quarter and went to dinner and back to the hotel. Good night for the day 🙂
